Popular Belle de Jour author unmasked

Today I was surprised to read that the real identity of Belle, from the popular Belle de Jour: diary of a London call girl blog, is research scientist Brooke Magnanti.
Brooke Magnanti decided to take her unmasking into her own hands after a former boyfriend threatened to divulge her identity. If you have read her blog you already know that Belle is a woman of great insight and unusual intellect but I was delighted to find out that she is a serious research scientist for the Bristol Initiative for Research of Child Health.
I have always found there is nothing sexier than an intelligent sexually liberated woman. So often professional woman and especially those in the sciences are seen as cold and asexual when in reality they are stimulating, creative lovers.
The Telegraph article goes on to compare Belle to Dominique Aury, the author of the Story of O, and describe the curious acceptance of private sex lives in the UK.
Personally I’m glad that Brooke is in London no doubt she would face severe moral judgement for her past in the US and would have at the very least lost her job if not her entire career.

Sex Toys in the New York Times

An interesting article in the New York Times documents the rise of sex toys from novelty items to common household appliances. Apparently things have changed a lot since the 50′s; with 53% of women and along with almost half the men surveyed reporting having used a vibrator on themselves or a partner they’re just about as common as a drip coffee maker.
